Game Summary

The game began with two offsides penalties on Livingston’s kickoff, giving Chattanooga Central decent starting field position. Gaining two first downs in three plays, they quickly drove into Wildcat territory. That is when Jake Craig sacked Jaheim Jones on first down, swinging the momentum in Livingston’s favor. They eventually stopped the Purple Pounders on 4th & 3, giving the ball to Livingston on their own 28 yard line. Freshman QB Will McDonald then led the Wildcats on a strong first drive, getting the ball deep into Central’s territory before a costly fumble by fullback Briley Rich ended the drive. After back to back punts by both teams and another fourth down stop by the Wildcats, the quarter ended with Livingston beginning a drive deep in their own territory.

With Livingston being forced to punt from inside their own 35, the Pounders received good field position. QB Jaheim Jones and Co made the most of the opportunity, scoring on a 22 yard pass completion to D.J. Baxter, giving the Pounders the game’s first points and a 6-0 lead, as the extra point was missed. Livingston then answered with a long touchdown drive, scoring on a 3rd & goal option to RB Carter Hayes, giving Livingston a 7-6 lead. This would be the halftime score, as both defenses clamped down after that.

Livingston’s first drive of the second half was a good one, getting as close as Central’s 6 yard line before stalling out. RB Carter Hayes was stopped short of the endzone on a 4th & goal play, ending a promising drive. However, Livingston rebounded to force a punt. After a 14 yard scramble by QB McDonald and a 15 yard penalty on a late hit out of bounds, Livingston had the ball deep in Central’s territory when the quarter ended.

With the ball in Chattanooga Central’s territory, QB Will McDonald was stripped by C.J. Montgomery of Chattanooga while scrambling, who then carried the ball 61 yards to the endzone, giving the Pounders a 7-12 lead, as the two point conversion was no good. Again, Livingston responded with a 61 yard touchdown drive, capped off by a Carter Hayes touchdown run and a Will McDonald strike to Hayes on the two point conversion. This gave Livingston a 15-12 lead halfway through the final quarter. Central did not stay down long, however, as they then executed a lengthy touchdown drive and a successful two point conversion to give them the 20-15 lead late. With less than two minutes left and the ball deep in their own territory, Livingston marched down the field before McDonald was sacked on 4th down, giving QB Jaheim Jones and the Pounders their first win since 2014.
